About me!

You may be wondering, "who is this girl taking a big leap and moving overseas for 5 months?" or "what motivated her to want to study abroad? Specifically in Seville, Spain?" Well, let me fill you in- but I think it may be easiest to start from the beginning!

Hi, my name is Kalie Dahl and I am originally from Carver, Minnesota. Now as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, I am majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, & Tourism Management, minoring in Business Administration and Spanish, and obtaining a certificate in Event & Meeting Management.

Ever since I was young, I knew I had an itch to travel, but it was a far-off dream until junior year of high school when my family agreed to host an exchange student for two weeks. Alicia, my now Spanish sister, and I instantly bonded and after hearing about her home of Seville, Spain, and it made me want to hop on the plane with her as she headed home! I knew though that wasn't possible as it is unfortunately not that easy to drop everything and move 4,300 miles on a whim, but I was fortunate enough to get another taste of Spain when my family hosted Noelia, my other amazing Spanish sister, during my senior year!

Alicia and Noelia taught me so much and gave me a taste of their culture in such short periods of time that I knew Spain is somewhere that I must explore and have adventures of my own. Then, during my freshmen year at Stout, the pieces fell into place as my senior friend Kaylee, who happened to be studying all the same things as myself, told me about her experience studying abroad in Seville with the program called CEA Seville, Spain- Communication, Media Studies, & Tourism Management. After applying to CEA, working lots to save up money, and countless hours of planning- the study abroad dream to Seville, Spain is coming true in January of 2022!

Along with my desire to visit Europe for the first time and broaden my cultural perspective, I hope to enhance my Spanish-speaking skills by taking classes and immersing with locals, other students, and even travelers from other countries. I will be taking two Spanish courses (Intermediate Spanish 2 and the Culture of Food & Wine) along with two courses focused towards my hospitality major and taught in English. Regarding my home for five months, I will be placed with a host family further giving me an authentic Spanish experience.

Envisioning my goals for this excursion include more than just academic growth as I desire to develop more personally and culturally. Being someone who likes to prepare, plan, and then prepare some more, I find myself trying to prepare for the unexpected, but part of the beauty of seeing new sights and getting a new worldly perspective is that growing is an unplanned experience. Therefore, I am going into this adventure with an open mind, heart, and soul working hard when needed, but also striving to become a more adept global citizen, student, and person wanting to contribute my skills, talents, and knowledge to the world around me. Through all of this, I am so happy that you are here to join me!
